Opis
predmeta

Purpose of the course is to introduce the student to some of the most important themes of the Jewish and Israeli history, from the Biblical to our time, through an interdisciplinary study of religion, history and politics. The object of study is the people of Israel, faith of Israel (including Christianity) and the Land of Israel. Emphasis is on the modern State of Israel: its development, its role in the Middle Eastern turmoil, and its influence on Jewish, Christian and Muslim theology.

1. Be acquainted with basic terms of Jewish/Israeli history, 2. Recognize main processes in Jewish history from Antiquity to modern time, 3. Understand importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Israel, 4. Be able to analyze and interpret primary and secondary sources, 5. Be acquainted with key political terminology, which originates in religion, particularly in Hebrew and Arabic, 6. Recognize main Middle Eastern political processes of today, 7. Be able to participate in debate over the issues studied, 8. Be equipped with skills necessary for further independent scholarly research, 9. Abide by ethical principles in his/hers work.
